International students don't just come to Australia to study. They come here to make lots of new friends and have a better life. We share some tips about hopefully making that dream into a reality.
1) Learn to socialize
As Australians we love to socialise. We love to be loud mouth and extroverted. During your uni years in Australia you should get out of your shy, comfort zone. Explore new areas, new laneways.
To get you to be more motivated, start a blog. Your first blog post need not be great. Blogging is about learning new and trying new things.
Do attend your uni's o week as they are a great way to make new friends. You can join the many clubs and associations that are offered.
2) Make friends and volunteer
Get involved in your uni's clubs and activities. Also get involved in some of the City of Melbourne's initiatives such as the Lord Mayor's welcome and the Couch. The Couch is opened four nights a week and they have lots of fun activities such as salsa for students.
Networking is really important so do join your industry associations.Do turn up to events, even if you don't know anyone. Don't be that shy person. You nothing to lose and everything to gain.
Do also join your favourite bar and pubs as they do have members parties. It is a great way to mingle.
3) Look to turn a dream into a reality.
I.e You might decide to start your own business. In the final years you should start applying for full time jobs, or if you are looking to start your own business start planning ahead now. Do your research and your budgeting. Work out about how you will get the money and the concepts.
If you are looking for full time work now is the time to visit the careers fairs in your uni and outside.
