This is a sponsored post as the owner had invited me to their place.
The owner is part Vietnamese, part American.
The place is located on Lt Collins st in the city, just past Australia on Collins on your way to Spencer st from Swanston st.
They are on Facebook.
The cafe is a small hole in the wall place. But it is cute and popular with the office workers. Right now they are opened for lunch but are thinking about doing dinner soon. And no they don't do dessert.
They do their usual Vietnamese cuisine and they have the Captain Banh Mi which is $7 for a vegetarian one. It doesn't come with pate, but you can choose other sauces to your liking. If you love chilli they have an extra spicy sauce for that
To start off with I had their freshly made juice ($6). It had all the ice down the bottom. This is nice for a warm summers day and it is traditionally Vietnamese.
They also have their Rice paper rolls. Two of them are vegetarian and most of them are meat. I went for the tofu and the omelette one. The omelette one was a bit bland, but I loved the tofu one as that one had lots of flavour.
I thought that the banh mi was a little bit expensive. It was stellar in taste and I loved the chilli kick. But I just thought that people don't want to have to pay $7 for such an ordinary one when they can buy it in Footscray for $5.
Verdict: Come here for the traditional Vietnamese food and friendly staff. Come here if you love everything to be freshly made.
I hope that they bring back their desserts. What I would also love to see is vegetarian pho and spring rolls on the menu.
