"Gelato World Tour, Melbourne (Australia) stage, 25-27 October 2013. Join
us at Argyle Square on Friday (12.30pm - 9.30pm), Saturday (11.00am -
9.30pm) and Sunday (11.00am - 7pm), during the Carlton Italian Festa.
The event is organized by Carpigiani Gelato University and Sigep (with
main partners IFI and MEC3). The objective: to share with the public
this fresh, high-quality food that represents the excellence and
creativity of thousands of gelato artisans.
Eight cities in the five continents will become capitals of gelato, that good, genuine, nutritious food, presented in hundreds of flavors. These cities will welcome thousands of people to their public squares and will contribute to highlighting artisans and local products. Sixteen gelato artisans are selected for each stage and they compete with flavors that combine tradition with innovation, bringing out the taste of the best ingredients. It´s an incredible opportunity to make themselves known and to show their own recipes to the audience and the media." Quote about the event from the Gelato World Tour Melbourne site
It is $10 per ticket but with that you get two mini cups of ice cream and some samplers.
Here there was a long line of people everywhere trying to get their ice cream fix. Most of the crowd were International students although some were local. For Melbourne Uni students they got two extra scoops. Bonus!
Here I had a lot of fun sampling the chocolate, the mascarpone, vanilla bean and another flavour that I cannot remember. I had just had lunch hence there was no fifth flavour. When I see chocolate I think fun and that is what this was.
I didn't really like the mascarpone that much. But I loved the vanilla bean and the small cone that it came in.
There were also demonstrations to be had. One of them was about owning a gelato store and here they talked about the gelato university in Italy. Prospective gelato makers need to study there in order to own a successful shop.
Many thanks to the City of Melbourne for sponsoring such an International event like this. Its great to see businesses get together and promote. More so it is great for the International students to learn about gelato and what it is all about. I hope that the City of Melbourne can have more events like this for International and Local students
