Superglue opens its doors in Emporium

Glue is a chain store and Superglue is a mega store. In fact this is like one store that I saw in Highpoint which excited the blogger in me to visit their opening day. Their opening day was heaps of fun as heaps of free ice cream was given out all thanks to N2.

There was also free Miss Chu's rolls and to add to the party atmosphere there was Prosecco and bottled drinks.

Sugerglue is a big store that sells mens and womens clothing and shoes. I mean the cool funky shoes. Right now they are having 20% off the total price of items.

They also sell artworks for $1000+ as well as other merchandise such as candles. They also have an in store tailor. How cool is that! And what's even better is all the cool sake from Japan on display.

Careers fair 2014

Hosted by Vic Uni it was a free event for those that pre planned. Meld has previously written about it and so have we but we wanted to give a heads up on some and exciting things that happened.

This year there are a lot more automotive courses and building courses and appreticeships for students. VACC has quite a few and Masters has also got a few.

Woolworths has a few jobs going for students at the moment. Thomas Dux is included in the Woolworths program.

Students could also work in Mcdonalds as they are always on the lookout for people.

Recruitment is now online and students are encouraged to sign up to Linkedin as well as plan their careers from the early stages of their program. They also have to think what makes them stand out from the crowd and what skills do they have that will fit the business. Students also have to think about what they can bring to the business

Rebecca Fraser a consultant also advises on writing cover letters and having a professional online profile. " More and more employers are going online" she says. And they are searching for candidates via Google. One tip she says is to "Google your name" and see what you come up with. Don't put anything online that is too negative about a business, otherwise they would not hire you.

Be positive about a business (if you can that is.). Don't use Facebook on a work computer unless the job specifically says you can.

Many people neglect a cover letter. Rebecca says that this is one of the worst mistakes that someone can make as a cover letter will tell employers that you are right for the job. It has to suit the key selection criteria in the ad.

Pho Tam

 Pho tam is a clean and modern Pho joint in Footscray. It has outdoor and indoor seating. On a nice sunny day you can easily sit outside and watch the world go by. It is also near the Little Saigon Market on a street corner

At Pho tam there was a TV and other things.  The bathrooms are out the back.

I went twice and both times staff were great. They were very friendly.

They are great for their beef phos which I had. At $10 per bowl it was decent for a cold winters day. The broth was flavoursome and the beef was cooked to perfection. They also give you onions as well as the usual lemon and chilli.

And there is a huge plate of bean shoots to add into your pho.

The noodles were perfect. They were the smooth type.

The second time around I did not have to pay as I was invited. It was on a quiet  and cold Friday morning and I hadn't had breakfast yet. So of course I was craving for pho.

The chicken pho with young chicken egg was good. The chicken egg had been hardboiled.
This time I had a much bigger appetite for all things pho.

The Couch turns five years old

RNIS was invited to the Couch party by Couch Melbourne

The Couch had its sleepover last night where there was heaps of games and free foods and performances.

Five years ago when I started uni there was lots and lots of International students being exploited and bashed. Some were being racially abused. Lots of Indians were being bashed.

The Couch began when a Mauritius student was homeless and sleeping under a bridge. He had sold many things including his phone at Cash Converters. It was here that he seeked help from the Salvation Army. Then it was when the Couch was formed.

It was also then that Meld was formed.

Five years later it is going strong with many parties and events for students. It was here that the Couch won its first award.

Thus their hard work was celebrated with a big party and a huge turnout. There was hot chocolate

Many thanks to the Couch for the invite and I hope you stay around for many years to come.

China Bar opens for 24 hours everyday

This China Bar is in the city and it is in the spot where Your Thai used to be. This China bar is opened for 24 hours and specializes in duck.

Here it is clean and is a lot more formal. The waiters were wearing suits and actual uniforms. The place had lots of bright lighting. At 7:30pm the place was bustling full of people mainly Asians. Most of the people ordered noodles.

The service was minimal. You had to go through the menu, work out what you want and then write it down on a sheet of paper. It's worse for those that are Westerners because you may have no idea as to what is what. And then you have to call them and some of them don't have good English.

On a cold winters night I wanted some duck and noodles and some I got for $12.90 in a big bowl. It was a combination of roasts (You can choose between two of them. I chose the actual duck and cha siu seeing as this is what I was craving). The duck and cha siu was nice but the duck was cut carelessly. There was bones all throughout the meal. Overall I loved the broth and the egg noodles. If only they had rice noodles.

Do come and visit for your duck cravings. I hope that this China Bar is here to stay as we need another 24 hour joint. Meld should check out the joint soon.
