RNIS was invited to Cultural night by the City of Melbourne on their Facebook page.
Indonesian Cultural night was celebrated in Melbourne at the Town Hall. About one thousand Indonesians and Australians turned up for a fun filled night. This night is all about celebrating Mederka, Indonesia's 70 years of being independent.
Of course there was some seating chaos and huge lines at the start. The people that got there later didn't have to wait.
The night went for about 2.5 hours straight.
The night was opened by the Australian Indonesia centre who envisions an Australia- Indonesian friendship full of trust, respect and shared benfit. And it is through these sorts of events that the Australian community can learn about Indonesian culture.
The dance was first and the dancers all looked spectacular on stage. I really enjoyed the fighting between the giant and the princess. The music too was really good and was reminiscent of Indonesian culture
The drama really reminded me of the "Year of Living Dangerously" as it was about war and executions. A lot of gunshots were heard.
Many thanks to the City of Melbourne and the Indonesian councils for the invite and the spectacular night. Without your generosity and the generosity of the volunteers who put in the countless hours this night would not have been a success.
