As part of Bupa's best blog competition for 2015
Malaysia House was hosting their annual Mega Raya which means open house. Of course this is a Malaysian celebration and what would it be without food.
This year's menu featured Soto Ayam which is a spicy soup dish with chicken in there. I have never had this before so I was dying to see how that was made. This was done like normal soup.
I helped out in the onion department. Here we cut lots and lots of onions, lemongrass and garlic. When I cut the onions I tried not to cry and I looked away at times. And then we blended the onions in with the garlic and that was done in a blender. Here the mixture was used for the base of the Soto Ayam and the biryani rice. And yes Biryani rice is on the menu. It is spicy and sweet (sweetness is from the raisins) and a little bit burnt.
The chilli sauce will also be another feature on this years menu and volunteers helped to make the 8L of sauce. It was very spicy.
Also Beef rending (another Malaysian favourite) will be on the menu as well as fried chicken. And for those that are vegetarian there is Nasi Impit (peanut satay sauce with rice)
As for the cakes that's another story as we weren't around for that.
Today was a good day as friendships were made and new cooking skills were learnt. Also learning how Malaysian food was cooked is also good.
