Vons Restaurant is in Hardware lane. RNIS had walked by it a few times and had always wanted to try it. It looked so good and clean. Also there is always a guy standing outside advertising the specials.
So one cold day RNIS decided to buy the Scoopon which was $9. The restaurant was not busy at 12:30pm but then it was busy at 1pm. I think the place is run by Chinese as the wait staff all spoke in Chinese. I was served by one unhappy looking waitress who probably a student.
The scoopon included the entree of garlic bread and your choice of main out of the $10 menu. I asked the waitress what was included in some of the dishes but she was vague.
The lemonade I had was a bit flat. Perhaps they used an old one.
The garlie bread was alright. It smelt good and I enjoyed the fact that it did not have a lot of garlic. It had lots of butter and it was soft.
I didn't mind the small serve of the pasta but it may have been a little bit too small. It was a little bit bland but the pasta was al dente and I loved the sundried tomatoes and artichokes. It made the dish rustic. I would have liked to have olives in there. The spinach was good though. And I loved the extra virgin olive oil. But I did not like having to ask for the parmesan chesse or a spoon for pasta. It should have been give out straightaway. Any other restaurant would do this.
Rating: 12/20- prefer Il Nostro Posto any day and its close by. The other meals were rather small too. At least with Il nostro they have great Italian food.
