AFIS (Australian Federation of International students) have their Info day for International students every semester.
This time around the Info day was on the 5th of April. It was in the Multicultural Hub in the city.

AFIS has done an amazing job with their day.
The party was fun, but I didn't stick around long enough as I wanted to visit HM.
I had learnt lots that day including about how to be safe in Melbourne's CBD. It is important for students to know where the quiet streets are and avoid these quiet dark alley ways (at night). At night a lot of youths, drunk, homeless people come into the city and cause all sorts of trouble. But in the daytime it is more the students and the workers that come.
Students there no need to carry a passport into the city unless you really need it. By that I mean really really need it. You can apply for a Keypass for $55 or your ISIC card will do you just fine.
Most trains end at midnight so you may as well stick around the workplace until morning and then get the first train out.
Always avoid the beggars if you can as begging is illegal in Melbourne. Remember you are trying to make money to live on. In the last few weeks Melbourne Central has had a lot of beggars visiting their shopping centre.
There was a lovely session by Danny Ong from Monash University talking about volunteering and experiencing Melbourne.
Many thanks to AFIS for having me and many others.
