New laws regarding penalty rates are being introduced

The Australian government is proposing new laws in which employers can get away with not paying penalty rates and entitlements to their workers. That means that people may not, depending on their get penalty rates. Many students have low paid casual jobs and this will affect them if their penalty rates are being taken.
Money which you could have if the Australian government kept the penalty rates.

There is a petition going on stopping the Australian government from allowing the new law to come into effect. Taking away the rates will harm the economy and the education industry as many students will turn to the US and the UK.

So far most International students have benefited from the penalty rates and are just able to pay their tuition and their living fees. They are not able to afford much in term of entertainment and luxury clothes. The cost of living is going up and more and more students are struggling.

Students you will get a penalty rate if you are asked to work in anti sociable hours eg at night. This is a higher rate then what you normally get paid.

If Tony Abbott (the Prime Minister of Australia) decides to introduce the no penalty rates rule that will mean that we will be worse off. That would also mean that we will have to worry about finances a lot more and Sally as international student will probably struggle to pay her uni fees.

Also friends of ours that work in the hospitality industry in lowly paid places will also continue to struggle.

So lets sign the petition and hope that Tony Abbott will not strip workers of their penalty rates, especially students who need to work to make ends meet.
