This is a sponsored post as we were invited to attend by the Monash City Council.
This event is for International students and locals alike. It was for high school and tertiary students. It was held on 15thof August from 2pm-4pm at the Clayton theater about a one minute walk from Clayton station. Clayton station is in zone 2.
I actually got lost in that area but luckily I remembered that the invitation stated that it is just outside of Coles.
I arrived 15 minutes late due to waiting for the stupid train in the city and getting lost. But I didn't miss much.
International students it would be a great idea to do some volunteering whilst you are in Melbourne as you learn a lot about our culture and it would look great on your resume. There are 430 organisations volunteering in the City of Monash.
Some of these organisations are the Monash youth reference group and the Anglicare Dickson enabled house. The Monash Youth reference group meet once a month over dinner to discuss issues affecting them as well as any ideas to be put forward to the council. Everyone is welcome, but they would love to have some more International students join their group.
Anglicare Dickson house caters for International students. Like the Couch in the city they have English classes and social activities for students
Danny Ong from Monash University talked about employment and using the council services. He said that Monash is multicultural hub.
Other people which came were SEAC which assists disadvantaged youths, police and fire brigade. The police are quite friendly in Melbourne. Their aim is to assist you if you need. Their aim is to keep everyone safe. So if you see something which is unsafe- report it by calling triple zero. This number can also be used for the fire brigade if you need them. If English is your second language you can ask for an interpreter. This is free.
Afterwards there was a lovely performance by the Aboriginal couple who taught us about their culture through their music.
Thanks to the City of Monash for putting this on and I look forward to meeting you soon. Thanks for inviting us.
Although the food was free it was just passable. Sorry Monash City council.
