Moxie pads

As part of our Health and Human Development series

I just got a sample of these pads from Moxie and I loved the cute packaging. It's so cute and girly and feminine.

When I opened up one of the pads I loved the word "STRIP" on the paper. How sexy is that!

Although they are thin, they are ultrabsorbent.

On the market they are about $4-$9 per pack, but you can get them for free from RUSU

Beware of scammers asking for personal details

As told by Katherine who knew a few friends who complained about this situation

"I know of a few friends who have just newly arrived in Melbourne and are looking for part time work. So they decided to look on Gumtree to find work. At that time they did not know that Gumtree is scam site. They found a job which they really liked and started applying for it."

"They then were asked for money, bank account details and passport and personal details such as their home address. I know that most legitimate sites don't ask for this".

" Most legitimate sites would ask for a resume and a cover letter and just a few small things about yourself. They would ask nothing about bank account and passport details, certainly no money".

" In the end these students lost about $10000 and were in financial debt all because of this very simple thing of applying on Gumtree. In the end they had to go home because they had no money to pay their school fees, rent and other things".

" Lessons learnt:
*do NOT APPLY FOR JOBS ON GUMTREE
* Instead visit your universities career service and go to the careers fairs even if you are in first year
* Instead look at sites like seek.com and careerone.com.au as they would never ask for your bank account, passport details or money
* Know the privacy law in Australia. No legitimate organisation can give out your details to someone else unless you authorise it. Nor can they ask for your bank details or other private information".

Brush your teeth

As part of our Health series
By not brushing your teeth twice a day plaque and tartar will build and then you might have to visit the dentist to get a filling. Now that is very costly and someone told me that International students are not covered for this.

Make sure that you buy a good brush. A electronic brush is better than the plastic ones as it does the job for you. All you need to do is turn it on and away you go. Electronic brushes can keep for ages and ages.
Now that's not an excuse not to brush your teeth. Note you cannot buy electric toothbrushes secondhand; you have to buy brand new. Or you could bring it from your home coutnry.
Electric toothbrushes costs somewhere between $50-$200 per brush. And then you need to buy the little brush heads (about $10).

And you'll also need some toothpaste. We love Sensodyne's wear and protect toothpaste as it keeps the mouth nice and clean

And then you need to floss your teeth. We love Oral B's dental floss.

If you can try and get a dental check up once or twice a year. This can be in your home country. Note if you choose to do it here you may not be covered by your Overseas student health cover.

In a Rush

At Building 80.

This shop has just opened about a few weeks ago and already it is popular with students and lecturers at RMIT. This is just one of the decent shops that opened.

There are no bathrooms- they are inside building 80.

There is indoor and outdoor seating, but given that it was a cold day we sat inside. It was nice and cozy in there.

They have $6.50 breakfast specials where you can get any Breakfast item on display and coffee. I got the salmon baguette and it was just as nice as the one at Duke Coffee Roasters. I can taste the capers in there.

Given that it was Easter they also had hot cross buns and Easter eggs.
They also had these cute little Portuguese tarts and these were just as good as the ones at Stax ($3.50).

My friends and I all had coffees and they too were really good. I had a long black. All my friends loved their coffees.

I hope that this place in a few months won't turn bad just like some of the others.

Be natural's free breakfast

As part of our Health and Human Development series.

Be Natural had a little stall in Federation Square where there was free breakfast for all.  I didn't know about this.
Be Natural is a muesli company, but they also do breakfast foods. They have been around for a while.

At their stall was free muesli, juice and muesli bars.
But I just had breakfast so I just took some yummy apple juice and muesli bars away.

Thanks for the free food, but just a hint please let us know sooner so that we wouldn't have had breakfast at home.

The chocolate muesli bar that I sampled is really sweet but fulfilling.

Next time when you are in the supermarket, look out for them
