The corner @Melbourne Central

I went to the newest place in Melbourne Central known as the Corner. Here it focuses on students. Here it sells some sports gear, bags, satchels, street wear etc. Soon they will have a Gloria Jeans and an STA travel.
The Glue Store (a streetwear store) is huge and it houses brands like Henleys, Lee, levis etc. There is one in Highpoint too.
It was opening day. They were giving away free goodie bags for things that you buy from the store. But nothing interested me there.
Nike is pretty cool but their stuff is uber expensive. $160 for a pair of running shoes.

social roasting company

Today I went to Social Roasting Company for my mocha and breakfast on the way to uni. I have read that the social roasting company is a not for profit company. It's aims is to give the long term unemployed a job in the hospitality industry. To do this they offer free training and support. In a way they are like the STREAT carts in Melbourne Uni and Melbourne Central.

The museli sample which I got to try

Some lovely artwork which gave the place a very warm homely feeling

It is about five minutes walk from Newmarket station. It is in zone 1 and about ten minutes train ride from the city on the Craigieburn line
The place is quite open and warm and friendly. They make their own coffee beans and sell them at their cafes. They are in Prahran, melbourne and Newmarket. You can buy the coffee beans from them. They also do takeaways.
I got to try a free sample of their museli bar and liked it.
I had a mocha ($3.50) and The Age's recomended museli with mascapone, figs and milk ($13). Here they sell food between $7-$19.
The museli was nothing to rave about, but I do like their organic museli. I couldn't finish it all. Milk was really nicely done.
The mocha was quite smooth and there was a slight bit of chocolate flavour in there. I think I would have liked it better if it was in a cup and not in a glass.
This is a great place for people with a health kick. This is also good for students to study in and Miss Adriennely should try the place as it is close to Melbourne uni and the city. Miss Adriennely if you are coming up from Melbourne Uni catch the Number 59 tram from the city to Airport West and change for the number 57 tram to West Maribynong at the corner of Melrose and Flemington roads. And get off at the stop before Newmarket station- it is only a few shops up the road.

Chillipadi CBD

Chillipadi is a Malaysian restaurant serving students and inner city workers. It is hidden in a laneway in Melbourne Central.

My bill which came out to $16. How expensive is that, considering I got inferior quality and not much service.

Promotional poster

Where is this year's cheap eats sign? Have they all decided to become very expensive?

Here they are open all hours for students.
The food here is not exactly cheap and some of the meals are not good value for money. They do have a 25% off the total bill discount in the Entertainment book, however I forgot to bring it.
But I do like the display on the counter and the quiet ambiance. The place was not too packed. I could not understand why the waitress got some of the orders wrong. She got wrong two tables orders and it took ages to get her attention when I wanted to order. She was running around, looking flustered like a mad chook. She was knowledgeable and tried to sell me the beef rendang.
The bathrooms are around the corner from the restaurant next to Mee too. I think that Chillipadi are trying to save some money on rent by not putting the bathrooms inside their restaurant. I would have liked to see bathrooms inside the restaurant.
I had the $16 lunch special. Sorry I forgot to take pictures of the food. It included one entree, one main and one drink.
For entree I had the seafood gyoza. Here it was more like for soup and not pan fried like they said it should be. They used the wonton skin instead of the thick gyoza skin. Not much seafood in there.
The lemonade was a bit meh. I would have liked to have a fresh lemon in it to make it a bit more presentable.
On to the mains. The mains was a terriyaki chicken dish with nori, cucumber and rice. This was more like a soya sauce chicken. I expected a bigger and much better main for the price I paid. The chicken was dry and tough in some areas.  The rice was placed under the chicken and the nori. I expected the rice to be placed in a separate place like some other dishes.
The sauce overpowered the dish a bit. So much that the rice was really soggy. The sauce was right though.
The nori and the cucumber were lovely though.
Upon payment the service staff asked me whether or not I enjoyed the meal. Just to be polite I said yes, sacarstically. But it's INFURIATING AND IRRITATING when they ask their customers. We would tell you if we enjoyed the meal, instead of you asking us. What else can I say besides yes, I enjoyed the meal.
Sadly I would not return unless their service and food improves. A tip to them, next time when someone comes to the counter and pays don't ask them if they enjoyed the meal. They will tell you if they have. AND SMILE FOR GOODNESS SAKES!!!

STREAT coffee cart @ Melbourne Central and @ Melbourne Uni

There are two coffee carts: one in Melbourne Central and one at Melbourne Uni. They both cater for uni students. They both have one aim: that is to help the homeless people. All of their profits go to the homeless people. They both operate on a volunteer basis and they both only open on weekdays between 9am and 6pm.
They are both takeaway carts only, although the Melbourne central one has a seating area nearby. They both do coffees and teas/hot chocolates.

1) Melbourne Central one.
This is my favourite one and Miss Adriennely, eat and be merry for tommorrow we diet, teenage foodie, eat play shop (there is plenty of room for you bubs and things for your bubs to try) and a miniature take on food should try this.
This one is close to RMIT and is on the ground floor of Melbourne Central shopping centre. This one only does coffees/hot chocolates/teas, pastries, muffins and cold drinks. They do have a muffin/pastry combo for $6 (sml) and $6.60 (large coffees).
I had a mocha and a lovely chocolate crossaint for $6.60. The mocha was just right with the three sugars and the right amount of coffee.

I can't wait to try the Melbourne Uni one
